Flexible legacy and modern I/O integration with the VIA ARTiGO A600

VIA ARTiGO A600

As Embedded World 2018 approaches, we will be publishing a series of profiles of the key platforms and systems that we will show at the VIA booth #2-551 in Hall 2 of the Nuremberg Exhibition Center.

One of the most significant trends we are seeing this year is a huge growth in demand for edge computing systems for a variety of industrial IoT, smart building, and smart retail applications. The most important reason for this is that it is much quicker and more cost-effective to process, analyze, and act on data captured by sensors such as cameras using a local edge computing system rather than to send a constant stream of raw data to the corporate network or cloud over costly and often low-bandwidth wireless connections.

With our family of edge computing solutions, our vision is to remove the complexity of developing and deploying edge computing systems for almost any environment – whether it be a busy factory floor connected to a CNC machine or on a remote hilltop enabling the remote monitoring of a wind turbine.

Leveraging the rich experience we have accumulated in the design and development of mission-critical embedded systems for leading OEMs worldwide, we have the necessary hardware, software, and integration knowledge and expertise to provide ultra-reliable edge computing solutions that can be customized to meet even the most demanding usage requirements for almost any application.

One of our core strengths is the ability to support a myriad of legacy and modern I/O standards to enable seamless integration with a plethora of sensors, machinery, and equipment. A good example of our approach to enabling flexible backward I/O compatibility is the VIA ARTiGO A600 smart automation control system.

With its support for four 3-pole Phoenix RS-485 ports with full 3.75KV isolation, a COM connector for an RS-232 port, a DIO port for 8-bit GPIO, as well as two mini USB ports, this ultra-compact fanless system provides a wealth of connectivity options for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and lighting equipment. It also comes with a built-in Ethernet port and optional Wi-Fi module to enable reliable communications between the equipment and the enterprise network or cloud for remote online monitoring and management applications that minimize operation and maintenance costs.
