By harnessing VIA’s unique Flexi-Bus Technology, the VN800 enables support for both the all new VIA C7-M™ and Intel® Pentium® M processors. Designed with mobility in mind, the VIA VN800 is optimized for ultra low power consumption to maximize battery life, and features advanced ACPI support to enable the VIA VN800 to power down certain functions of the chipset when not in use. Further, when paired with the VIA C7-M processor, the VIA VN800 offers support for VIA PowerSaver™, which acts as a throttle to lower the CPU’s frequency and voltage when the workload is light, reducing overall CPU power consumption by up to 50 percent.
The VIA VN800 features a high bandwidth VIA V4 bus to allow communication between the chipset’s North and South bridges at 533MB/sec. When combined with solutions such as the market-leading VIA VT8237A South Bridge and a broad array onf VIA companion chips, the VIA VN800 provides a comprehensive range of storage, multimedia and connectivity features, including native Serial ATA and support for 6-channel or 8-channel VIA Vinyl Audio, VIA Velocity™ Gigabit Ethernet and wireless LAN connectivity, USB2.0, and 1394.
Leveraging an advanced shared memory architecture, the VIA VN800 integrates the VIA C-Pro Integrated Graphics Processor (IGP) ensuring optimal performance for all multimedia, entertainment, and productivity applications. With an internal data flow equivalent to the latest AGP 8X graphics cards, a 200MHz 2D/3D graphics engine features dedicated 128-bit data paths for pixel data flow and texture/command access.
VIA C-Pro IGP also features the C-Motion CE Video Display Engine, raising the bar for digital entertainment support on PC systems. The C-Motion CE Video Display Engine employs a multi-faceted approach to displaying multimedia content, implementing a number of advanced tools at every stage of video processing. These include integrated MPEG-2 decoding, for flawless digital video playback with ultra-low CPU-utilization, and advanced rendering tools such as Adaptive De-Interlacing and Video Deblocking, which ensure clearer playback of digital content on all display devices such as CRT, LCD, standard definition TV and HDTV up to 1080p resolution*.
