Year of the Tiger: Powerful New Forklift Safety AI Technologies

Following the successful launch of the VIA Mobile360 Forklift Safety System in China at the beginning of last year, we have seen widespread adoption of the system across many different vertical segments in the country, ranging from warehousing and distribution to petrochemicals and manufacturing.

One example of how the system is being deployed at scale can be found in this case study showing how Shaanxi Automotive, the leading producer of commercial heavy vehicles in the northwest of China, is utilizing its AI forklift safety technologies to reduce operator blind spots as well as enhance protection for factory workers, vehicles, and materials in its busy manufacturing operations.

Since we announced the global availability of the VIA Mobile360 Forklift Safety System in October 2021, we have seen similar adoption trends in Taiwan, SE Asia, Europe, and the US. With nearly 100 people suffering a serious injury in a forklift accident every year in the US alone, companies throughout the world are looking to adopt a more pro-active approach to improving safety that transcends the limitations of traditional processes and procedures. Powerful new forklift safety AI technologies such as pedestrian detection and driver monitoring combined with cloud-based data analysis and insights are poised to play an instrumental role in enabling organizations to make this leap.

In the year ahead, we plan to make continuous enhancements to the VIA Mobile360 Forklift Safety System to boost performance, functionality, and ease-of-use. On the hardware front, these will include the launch of a Speed and Reverse Light Sensor Kit, the enablement of different camera configurations, and the launch of an external DC-DC converter supporting an input voltage range of up to 96V.

On the software side, we will introduce a number of improvements to the VIA WorkX App that facilitate camera calibration and enable users to adjust the detection sensitivity so as to avoid false positives in their operational environment.

To enable customers to gain deeper insights into forklift usage patterns and potential safety hazards, we also plan to roll out a dedicated VIA Mobile360 WorkX Connect Cloud Management Service during the first half of the year.
